What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a component of traditional Chinese medicine that originated in China over 5,000 years ago. It is based on the belief that living beings have a vital energy, called “qi”, that circulates through twelve invisible energy lines known as meridians on the body. We now know that “qi” was a mistranslation and Chinese Medicine focuses on the air we breathe into the blood stream and its travel throughout the body.  Blood circulation and the nervous system are the focus of Chinese Medicine. The Yin and Yang symbol is the same as balance or Homeostasis in Western Medicine.  Chinese Medicine uses Acupuncture needles to communicate with the electrical system of the body to give direction to the natural healing mechanisms we all have and getting as close to homeostasis as we can.

How Does it Work?

  1. Stimulates the release of pain-relieving endorphins

  2. Improves blood flow, increases circulation and reduces inflammation. Especially helpful where an injury occurred.

  3. Stimulates the nervous system or the electrical system of the body.  Redirecting that system over time.

  4. Resets the sympathetic nervous system, assisting the reduction of cortisol (stress hormone).

Specialties

Acupuncture treats many conditions and my focus is on the following.

Stress, Anxiety and Panic

In todays society we are constantly on the go.  Stress can lead to anxiety which can also present in the form of panic attacks.  People with PTSD are also at risk for the above.  Acupuncture is proven to work better than drugs.

Battlefield Acupuncture

By the Military for the Military.  Acupuncture done with semi-permanent needles in the ear.  Battlefield Acupuncture treats pain, stress and anxiety or PTSD.  The needles are retained for 3-5 days for lasting affects.

Back, Neck and Shoulder Pain

Pain is one of the main reasons people seek Acupuncture.  I have had great success with my patients when working on pain reduction.  Especially in the areas mentioned. Acupuncture is proven to work better than possibly very addictive medications.

Migraines and Headaches

Consistent headaches and migraines are a sign that something is not balanced internally.  Rather than reach for drugs that simply mask the pain, Acupuncture can get at the root and get headaches/migraines under control.

My Practice

I strive for a relaxing atmosphere that is a place where healing begins.
